Different Types Of Volcanoes
A volcano is a mountain or a hill that stores lava and erupts the lava with ash and gas. It is commonly feared by people, but it is possible for a volcano to “retire” and stop its eruption forever.
There are three main types types of volcanoes, Composite volcanoes (also known as Strato volcanoes), Shield volcanoes and Dome volcanoes.
Composite volcanoes are formed with ash and dried lava. When they erupt, they don’t just spill lava but they burst the lava with hot steam, ash, rocks and dust. The lava with the steam can be as hot as 400 ˚C. Composite volcanoes can rise over 2438.4 meters.. 2438.4 meters is about as tall as the Tower Of Babel.
Shield Volcanoes are very low and safer than the composite volcano and the dome volcano. Shield volcanoes have often eruptions that are harmful to humans, but the eruptions are more non-explosive than composite volcanoes and dome volcanoes. However, because it isn’t as explosive as the other volcanoes, the lava can flow very fast and take away many lives.
Dome volcanoes are basically shield volcanoes with thicker lava that cannot flow fast and steeper sides on the volcano. They share a lot of similarities.
Exploring Volcanoes
There are specialists that study volcanoes called “volcanologists”. They go to volcanoes to explore more about them and they get prepared before hitting the volcano with equipment and research.
When exploring the volcanoes, they choose a retired volcano or an active volcano with a low chance of erupting and they wear protective clothing (heavy boots, jeans, hat, gloves and long-sleeved shirt) since dried lava can hurt you even though its dried). They might bring equipment to protect them from fire such as fire-retardant flight suit and a gas mask.
Exploration is important because it can help scientists discover more and more about volcanoes. It can help volcanologists see the impact that volcanoes are causing to humans and it has been a big piece in discovering how volcanoes erupt, the forms and functions of volcanoes and the different types of volcanoes. The research about volcanoes are also helpful in physical ways since it can predict when a volcano’s next eruption will be. It can save many lives and help volcanologists make a safer world without much threatens for volcanoes.
An example of a famous volcano explorer would be the Katia and Maurice Krafft duo. They were french volcano explorers. They explored many different volcanos together before they died when the volcano they were exploring, Mt. Unzen, erupted during their exploration. It happened on June 3, 1991.
